Financial Aid for Emergency Management Graduate Students
At the University of New Haven, we recognize the financial commitment and investment that comes with a graduate education. The Office of Financial Aid is dedicated to providing students with the information they need to facilitate decisions on financing and borrowing options.
Applications for graduate financial aid are accepted on a rolling basis throughout the academic year. Students interested in applying for financial aid are encouraged to do so at least 4 weeks prior to the start of a session to ensure that aid is awarded in a timely manner and is available at the beginning of each session.
Students who apply for financial aid and are eligible (see below) may be offered a Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan up to a maximum amount of $20,500 for the academic year. For additional details and information on this loan please click here.

To qualify for federal financial aid as a graduate student at the University of New Haven, you must:
- Be admitted and matriculated into a degree-granting program and enrolled at least half-time (6 credits or 2 classes per semester, which is the equivalent of 1 class per term) in the session for which you are seeking assistance;
- Be considered an eligible citizen, permanent resident or non-citizen as defined on the FAFSA;
- Not be in default on a prior federal student loan and not owe a refund on a federal student grant;
- Maintain satisfactory academic progress as defined by the University of New Haven Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy.
How to Apply
- Before beginning your FAFSA, make sure you have applied for and received a FSA ID. The FSA ID will allow you to sign the FAFSA electronically. You can apply for your FSA ID and www.fafsa.ed.gov.
- File Your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Visit www.fafsa.ed.gov to complete the FAFSA.
- You must list the University of New Haven as one of the schools entitled to receive this information and list our Title IV school code number, which is 001397.
Financial Aid Cost of Attendance
The Financial Aid Office utilizes a Cost of Attendance (COA) schedule, which consists of direct charges from the university as well as estimated book expenses and other general expenses incurred by the student during an academic year. This COA is used in determining your financial aid eligibility. Please note that your loan amount cannot exceed the COA.
For the 2015-2016 academic year beginning in the Fall 2015 semester, the cost of attendance per semester is as follows:

How You are Awarded and Notified
- The financial need of each student is used to determine aid eligibility. Need is calculated by subtracting the Expected Family Contribution (EFC) — as determined by a federally mandated formula using the financial information supplied on the FAFSA — from the Cost of Attendance (COA).
- The Financial Aid Office will determine an aid package based on the student’s FAFSA information, cost of attendance, and enrollment for each session.
- Incoming students are notified of their aid eligibility through a financial aid award notification which is sent to their home. This correspondence outlines the procedures to view their award information online via our web based financial aid system. Students begin receiving award notifications upon completion of the FAFSA and acceptance into the university.
Students Please Note:
- Once you have completed your financial aid application and it is reviewed, additional forms and documents may be requested.
- If you will receive financial assistance or scholarships from an outside source for the academic year (including employer tuition reimbursement), you must declare this information to the Financial Aid Office.
- Financial aid applications must be completed and loan applications certified prior to the last day of the session for which you are seeking aid.

Financial Aid Refund Policy
Refunds of charges and financial aid will be based on the institutional refund policy, and on the Return of Title IV Funds calculation, as required by Section 484B of the Higher Education Act. Federal regulations require that any unearned Title IV aid be returned to the program(s) that provided the funds. For additional information, please see the Financial Aid Policies page.
